Resource Allocation in Jedox Cloud

Jedox Cloud is designed to provide a stable, scalable, and secure platform for planning, analytics, and performance management workloads. To achieve this, the Jedox infrastructure teams continuously monitor and optimize the allocation of cloud resources across cloud services, supporting application performance, operational efficiency, and platform reliability.

This article provides a high-level overview of how infrastructure resources are managed within the Jedox Cloud environment and outlines best practices customers can follow to help ensure optimal application performance.

How resource allocation works

Each Jedox Cloud instance is allocated a defined amount of RAM and CPU according to the contracted cloud package and the recommendations provided in the Jedox Cloud Sizing Guide.

These resources are shared across the various Jedox platform components, including:

  • Jedox In-Memory DB (OLAP)
  • Jedox Web
  • Jedox Integrator
  • Supporting platform services

Jedox uses a resource management framework that continuously evaluates workload demands and dynamically balances available resources across platform services.

This approach is designed to:

  • Maintain platform stability and availability
  • Support consistent application performance
  • Enable efficient scaling as customer demand grows
  • Reduce the likelihood of service disruptions caused by resource constraints

Where technically appropriate, Jedox may adjust the allocation of resources between components within the same cloud instance to support workload demands. Such adjustments always remain within the total capacity allocated to the respective cloud instance.

Fair usage and capacity flexibility

To accommodate increases in demand, Jedox applies a Fair Usage Policy that allows customers to consume up to 20% more resources than their contracted allocation for up to two consecutive months.

This flexibility is intended to support:

  • Temporary workload peaks
  • Seasonal business activities
  • Data migration initiatives
  • Testing and project-related tasks
  • Short-term growth in resource demand

If resource consumption remains above the allocated capacity for an extended period, or if increased user numbers, data volumes, or application complexity result in sustained resource requirements, customers should review their applications with their implementation partner or a Jedox consultant to identify potential optimization opportunities.

Where optimization measures are insufficient to meet ongoing business requirements, customers may contact their Jedox sales representative to discuss available package upgrades or additional RAM and CPU capacity through the add-ons defined in the Jedox Price List. These options enable customers to scale their cloud environments in line with sustained increases in users, data volumes, and application workloads.

Resource redistribution between customer cloud instances

Resources are allocated and managed independently for each cloud instance.

As a result, resources cannot be transferred or redistributed between different environments owned by the same customer, including:

  • Production and test environments
  • Production and development environments
  • Larger and smaller cloud packages

This approach is essential for Jedox to fulfill its contractual obligations regarding service availability, performance, stability, and operational reliability.

Customers should also note that Jedox Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for availability apply only to production (live) environments.

Customers are therefore strongly advised not to use development or test environments for production workloads. Non-production instances are often sized differently from production instances and may have different RAM and CPU allocations based on their intended use and contracted cloud package. Running production workloads on such environments may therefore result in resource constraints, reduced performance, or scalability limitations.

Proactive monitoring and capacity management

The Jedox infrastructure team continuously monitors:

  • Infrastructure capacity
  • Memory and compute utilization
  • Platform health indicators
  • Service performance metrics
  • Overall environment stability

Through automated monitoring, proactive capacity planning, and operational oversight, potential resource bottlenecks can often be identified and addressed before they impact production workloads.

Customers are encouraged to inform Jedox Support about known recurring planning periods, budgeting cycles, forecast submissions, consolidations, major data loads, or other predictable workload peaks. Advance visibility into these business activities helps Jedox proactively plan capacity and optimize resource allocation to better support customer demand during periods of increased utilization.

The importance of application optimization

Infrastructure resources are only one component of overall platform performance.

Application design, data models, business rules, integrations, and user behavior all have a significant impact on resource consumption and system responsiveness.

To achieve sustainable long-term performance, customers are encouraged to:

  • Optimize business rules and calculations
  • Monitor data growth trends
  • Review integration and ETL workloads
  • Remove unnecessary complexity where possible
  • Collaborate with implementation partners or Jedox consultants on optimization initiatives

In many cases, application optimization can yield greater performance improvements than infrastructure scaling alone.

When additional resources may be required

As organizations grow, application workloads and user counts may increase beyond the capacity originally allocated to an environment.

When optimization measures are no longer sufficient to meet business requirements, customers may consider upgrading their cloud resources.

Additional capacity may be appropriate when:

  • Resource consumption consistently exceeds allocated capacity
  • Business growth introduces significantly larger workloads
  • New use cases increase processing requirements
  • Application optimizations have already been implemented without sufficient improvement

Customers can contact their Jedox Sales representative to discuss available package upgrades or additional RAM and CPU capacity through the add-ons available in the applicable Jedox Price List.
